This page complements our Community Guidelines, Terms, and Privacy Policy. It is guidance, not legal advice, and it cannot eliminate every risk of online dating.
1. Protect your profile
- Avoid posting your full legal name, workplace, home address, or daily routine on a public profile.
- Think before using photos that also appear on public social media with identifying details.
- Do not include phone numbers, payment handles, or private social links in your bio.
- Only share what you are comfortable showing other members.
2. If you need to stay discreet
Many LGBTQ+ people are not out everywhere. On HerDate you may be able to:
- Enable app lock (biometrics or PIN).
- Use a discreet home-screen name so the app is less obvious on your phone.
- Manage notification previews in your phone settings.
These reduce accidental disclosure — they do not make use invisible. Shared devices, screenshots, and people looking over your shoulder can still expose the app. Trust your judgment about what is safe where you live.
3. Safer chatting
- Keep early conversations on HerDate until you feel comfortable.
- Watch for love-bombing, pressure to move off-app immediately, or secrecy.
- Never send intimate photos you would not want shared.
- Do not record calls or share private chats without consent — and report anyone who threatens to.
- Respect “no” the first time. Expect the same in return.
4. Spot scams
Be extra careful if someone:
- Asks for money, gifts, crypto, or gift cards.
- Claims an emergency and needs you to pay urgently.
- Pushes investment schemes or “guaranteed” returns.
- Avoids video/voice and has inconsistent stories or stolen-looking photos.
- Threatens to out you unless you pay or send content.
HerDate staff will never ask you for your password or for money via chat. Report scams and block the account.
5. Meeting in person
- Meet in a public place the first time — café, busy venue, daylight when possible.
- Tell a friend your plans and set a check-in time.
- Arrange your own transport to and from the meeting.
- Stay sober enough to leave if you need to.
- Leave if something feels off — you do not owe an explanation.
- Be mindful of local attitudes toward LGBTQ+ people; choose venues that feel safe for you.
6. In-app safety tools
- Block — stops that user from contacting you.
- Report — flags harassment, fake profiles, underage use, scams, and other violations for review.
- App lock / discreet label — extra privacy on your device.
7. When to report
Report in the app or email support@winkmeet.com if you see:
- Harassment, hate speech, or threats
- Fake or stolen profiles
- Anyone who appears under 18
- Non-consensual intimate images or blackmail
- Scams or commercial solicitation
- Attempts to out or dox someone
8. Emergencies & support
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first (in India, dial 112). Then report the account to us when you are safe.
